Sayo, restless and feverish and exhausted as her continued transformation saps her already limited energy, dreams of the mysterious villain and of Magia Baiser and of Utena.

Author's note: Piece of vent fic that actually fits into what I have planned for Strong Enough for Three (previous part is Wayward Daughter) pretty well. Consider it a bit of an interlude before the next planned chapter.

As Magia Azure slept, Minakami Sayo was trapped in a nightmare from which she had not the strength to awaken.

At first it went just as in the real world. Relentlessly pursuing the woman who had taken Magenta, catching her spiriting away a civilian girl with brown hair streaked with teal in the dark of night. Cornering her and forcing her to drop her bound and gagged catch.

But all too quickly, just as in the real world, the roles of trapper and entrapped were reversed. Sulfur fought bravely, unleashed her true form... Fought with everything she had, fists and shields (and swears) flying like nothing Azure had ever seen.

And it all amounted to nothing.
That wicked bladed staff sliced through Sulfur's shields and gouged her flesh with every swing. Sulfur howled in pain, falling to her knees. "I can't move! Azure, my muscles are...!"

Sayo rushed to Sulfur's side. The strong and fierce Sulfur who could do anything, reduced to a mewling helpless girl. Or was it Sulfur? Was it...

"Kaoruko!" Sayo called.

Normal human Kaoruko stared at her with those fading eyes. One of her closest friends, laying there helpless, staring at her with disappointment dripping from her voice. "Y'all should get going," Kaoruko said, her eyes unfocused. "You worked so hard, you were the first of us to reach your true form... and you're still so weak. Just go."

Sayo shook her head. "There's got to be something..."

"Just go, okay? It's not like you could do anything to save us." The civilian had Haruka's face, Haruka's voice, laying there with equally empty eyes. "Better to save your own useless skin. Leave us to our fates. Give up just like you did before."

Anxiety rose in Sayo's chest. She tried to back away from her fallen friends as they mocked her, tried to fly away, but she couldn't get off the ground. Her steps were so slow. It felt like she wasn't moving at all. "No, no... I- It was different with Baiser..."

A sharp heeled boot lashed into Sayo's back, knocking her down and pressing her face against the freezing cold ground.

"Running away? You call yourself one of the Tres Magia?" Magia Baiser growled. "You're not even worthy to lick my boots."

Sayo whimpered, desperately pleading with the villainess grinding her face into the dirt. "No... I have... I have to save them..."

"So then save them." The wounds the wicked forked staff had given her stung as Baiser drove her heels into them. "You're not saving anyone. Just yourself."

Tears came to Sayo's eyes. "I tried! But I don't know how to get back to them... I-I can't..."

"This is why you're not worthy my attention anymore," Baiser sighed, kicking Sayo onto her side. "I don't care what happens to a fake magical girl who flees when her friends are in danger. I certainly don't want to play with her."

"Please... Please, Magia Baiser..." Sayo begged. "I want to be with you... Thinking about you makes me feel so weak, but when I face you I feel so strong... Why... why did you leave when I need you?"

Baiser bent forward. "Disgusting. Pathetic. I want to play with Magia Azure. But you? You don't deserve the name." She reached down, tearing Sayo's transformation item from her chest. "You are no magical girl. And you will get none of my love."

"No... No, I want to be loved... please! I need it!" Sayo mewled, reaching toward that boot - so close and yet so far away. "I-I'll do anything, anything you want, just please..."

"Then cast off this worthless weakness. Get up and fight." Magia Baiser's eyes were as cold as Sayo had ever seen them. That day in the park... burned into her memory. "You can have my love when you show me that you deserve it."

Sayo struggled to lift herself off the ground, but her muscles failed her. "I can't... I can't get up... I'm hurt, M-Magia Baiser, please..."

"Forget it, then." Magia Baiser turned on her heel, raising her hand in a dismissive wave. "You can die here for all I care."

"No... Baiser... Kaoruko... Haruka... Anyone, please...!"

The others were all gone. Even the new villain was gone. It was just the busy street, filled with the passersby who walked straight past her without ever once seeing her.

She lay there, broken, looking for even one friendly face among the crowd. None.

"Mama..." she whimpered, stretching her hand out. "Mama, help me... I just want to go home... I w-want to be loved again..."

The shrine was there in the distance. She could see it. But she couldn't reach it. She couldn't drag herself to it. She couldn't go back there. She couldn't show them that their little girl had run away from home to be a heroine... and had failed at it in the most basic way, abandoning her friends when they needed her most.

A familiar face emerged from the sea of unfamiliar ones. "Sayo?" Utena asked, reaching down. Her fingers entwined with Sayo's. "What happened to you?"

"I wasn't good enough," Sayo whimpered. "I failed... I failed, and Kaoruko and Haruka are gone... and I don't know if I can ever find them again..."

"It's your fault the Tres Magia are gone?" Utena was laying beside her now, staring her in the eyes. "Sayo... How could you let this happen?"

No... not this, too... not kind, gentle Utena... Don't let her reject me too... Please...

"A girl like that can't stay alongside me," Utena continued, looking at Sayo with pitying eyes. "You understand, right? But... I can't leave such a pathetic girl on her own, either..."

"I-I don't deserve to be alongside you," Sayo pleaded, tiny cries bubbling up from her throat. "But if it means you can love me, then... whatever you want to do with me... I'll accept it all..."

Utena knelt, tying her up with loving care like a precious gift. The ropes squeezed around her skin, holding her tight the way Magia Baiser's tentacles had. "Poor, helpless Sayo... Let me take care of you, okay?"

Being made helpless - having all power taken from her - felt good. "Y-yeah... this is where I belong..."

A collar closed around Sayo's neck, and Utena smiled at her. "It's okay. You don't have to be special for me to take care of you. I'll even take care of someone as worthless as you."

"That snaggle-toothed smile... Just like Magia Baiser... When I'm at my lowest, when I'm desperate, that's when she shows me that smile..." Sayo breathed out a slow sigh. "I want... I want someone to see the weak me and smile like that... I want to be held so tightly that I can't move... I-I want... I want the weak me to be loved, too... I can't be the strong me all the time..."

Utena pulled her into a warm hug that helped dispel the chill of the ground.

"Do you love me, Utena?" Sayo asked, trying to keep the desperation from her voice. "Utena... Utena, please... please don't leave me... I don't want to be alone..."

There was no answer.

"No... no, please, come back... Utena..."

Utena chewed her lip, looking over at her bed with anxiety knitting her brows. Magia Azure was writhing and mumbling something in her sleep - Utena was half sure she'd heard her own name. Her temperature had dropped overnight; Utena had lifted her into her bed and wrapped her in thick blankets to try to warm her, but it didn't seem to be helping. Should I wake her? But... she's hurt. She needs to rest... I don't know what to do...

She picked up her phone again. Talking to Kiwi was keeping her sane through this whole process... though her impatience was starting to get out of control.

Araga Kiwi

11:35 AM

Kiwi

UGGGGGGHHHH πŸ’’πŸ’’πŸ’’πŸ’’ She's STILL asleep?

Utena

Kiwi

Do you really HAVE to keep watching over that big titty sub bitch? 😾😾😾😾😾😾😾😾

Utena

She's really hurt, Kiwi.

Kiwi

Well!! I'm really horny!!

Utena

Look, maybe you should come over and we just regular study. I don't want to leave her alone.

Kiwi

BOOOOOO.

πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯πŸ’₯

If she's asleep, she won't know, right? 😏

Utena

Kiwi

What? You can watch her while I eat you out, right? 😏😏😏😏😏

You really wanna miss out on this tongue today~? 😜

Utena lowered her phone, cheeks brilliantly red. That sure was a photo of a naked Kiwi, naughty bits censored only by her own arm and a strategic camera angle, curling her tongue up between her fingers. Did she just have that ready to go or did she just take it? And if she just took it, that means she's naked right now...

She suppressed the urge to squeeze her thighs together. No! I can't be horny like this, I have a guest... and an overeager trans item!

Araga Kiwi

πŸ’“ SO IN LOVE WITH UTENA

Utena

Kiwi!!!!!!

Making me blush like that with Azure right there...

I can't, okay? Not with her here. We have to be quiet. I don't want to disturb her.

And don't bring your trans item. I don't want you transforming in front of her and starting a fight.

Kiwi

I KNOW! I'M NOT STUPID!

😝

Utena

Sorry...

The typing indicator appeared and faded, appeared and faded.

Finally, it disappeared entirely.

The knots of worry in Utena's stomach tightened. No, Kiwi... Did I say the wrong thing? Did I hurt her again?

She looked over at her patient, tapping her phone's lock button and tucking it away in her pocket. Since her transformation, Azure seemed to have everything put together.

I wish you could teach me to be like that...
