Magia Azure has her two best friends taken from her and has to fall into the arms of her greatest enemy to recover the strength to get them back.

Author's note: Based on a whump prompt about a battered hero crashing at the villain's doorstep with some further brainstorming from MahoAko writing community members Kinathis and Bazure.

I'll probably add more to this later.

There was a soft whiiine as the disc recorder ejected its latest creation. Hiiragi Utena gently placed it in its jewel case, then pursed her lips as she carefully, carefully applied her custom disc label on top of it, smoothing it down to get all the bubbles and wrinkles out of it.

Tres Magia vs. Magia Baiser, Leoparde, NeroAlice. July 30.

With a warm and patient affection, Utena slipped the final insert into the front cover.

It's important to have hobbies, of course. Utena's was tracking the efforts of local magical girls Tres Magia - with footage from across every news network and every social media feed she could find. And more and more often...

She clicked the case shut, looking down at Magia Azure's gritted teeth as she writhed in the grip of another of Magia Baiser's nefarious tentacled beasts. One last look before sliding the case into her collection. She really was beautiful.

It's just a shame that a photo can't capture how beautiful she really is when she's fighting me like that, Utena thought with a private smile and a glance at the four-pointed star on her nightstand.

... she was giving them something to spend their efforts on.

The doorbell rang, and Utena's mother called through the house. "Utena, honey, can you get the door, please?"

"Coming!" Utena called, pausing for a moment to kick off the next disc in her collection. She was falling behind, honestly... more caught up in fighting them than in recording her exploits.

She bounced down the hallway in socked feet, seeing a familiar splash of azure blue hair through the window that gave her a momentary pause. The Tres Magia are here? For me? ... Oh, the gods have been listening to my prayers! She could barely contain herself, throwing the door open with a big wide smile.

The girl on the other side of the door was far more brown and red than she was blue, however. She was cradling an arm. Her clothes were torn - not sensually, the way Magia Baiser had done, but haphazardly, and only to reveal deep gashes in her flesh. Her face was bruised and swollen, and blood trailed from her mouth to her chin.

And she was alone.

"Sorry," Magia Azure breathed, voice faint. "I didn't, I didn't know where else to go."

She wobbled dangerously for a moment, then fell forward into Utena's arms.

By some act of divine intervention, Utena managed to get the semiconscious Azure back to her room and onto her bed without alerting her mother or making too much of a mess. She wasn't light, but working as a dark magical girl had at least given her enough upper body strength to manage. There had been a few droplets of blood on the floor here and there, but nothing Utena couldn't blame on a bloody nose.

... Her clothes and carpet, on the other hand, were probably going to be a bit harder to explain...

Anxiety racked her, and her mind was overloaded with questions. Who did this to you?! And where are the others? Why did you come to me of all people...?

"You gave a nice massage," Azure mumbled, seemingly somewhat delirious from blood loss. "I thought you could... h-help me."

"I promise, I'll do anything for you," Utena assured her with a burning fervor in her eyes. If there's anything I can do! She looked to the star on her nightstand - could it help her? No, what good was that kind of power in this situation?! A dominatrix would be useless for--

Double take. Wait! What am I saying?! Even if it could help... If she sees that, I'm screwed! She'll never trust me again! Triple take. Focus, Utena, she might not live long enough to notice it if you don't help her!

Right. Stopping the bleeding had to come first. Utena's secrets didn't matter at all if Azure died in her arms. She came for Hiiragi Utena. That's who's going to care for her. She grabbed a school uniform blouse from her closet, using it to wrap one of the gashes.

Azure was seemingly unaware of her inner turmoil. "You're so good with your hands, Utena. So gentle..."

Under normal circumstances, this would have been the highest compliment imaginable. But amidst all her worries about Azure's health and the status of the missing Sulfur and Magenta, it was merely a distraction. "I-It's an honor to be able to help..."

At least her efforts seemed to be working. Azure wasn't breathing so shallowly anymore - her transformed healing factor was taking over now that she was resting and not actively bleeding out. But she would need food and water soon, if she didn't need it already. Magic alone couldn't repair her body without the proteins and fats and sugars to repair it with.

Utena stroked Azure's hair, momentarily distracted from her practical concerns by Azure's quietly resolute expression as she watched Utena work. Even like this, all beat up and on her own... She's still the brave heroine Magia Azure, cool and collected and utterly unbreakable. And she came to me for help... Ehehe...

"I'm sorry for staring," Azure murmured, misinterpreting Utena's extended gaze. "It's just, the way you smile..."

"Hmm?"

"... Nothing." Azure tilted her head away, cheeks pink. "It's cute... that's all."

It's cute?! Utena felt like she might explode with the desire to kiss her battered heroine right then and there. Of course, it wouldn't be right to take advantage of a vulnerable member of the Tres Magia... especially as a civilian, but Utena could just imagine the world where she could nurse Azure back to health with some sensual healing, not as a member of Enormita but as one of the Tres Magia's biggest fans, her body and Azure's entwined and the two of them kissing intimately and sharing mana-

The four-pointed star on the nightstand oozed a purple aura, interrupting Utena's lustful fantasies. Wait, nonono-! Don't you dare!

"E-Enormita... I sensed them for a moment, but I..." Azure murmured. "Utena, listen to me. If Enormita come here, I need you to run and hide somewhere. Don't come out no matter what happens to me. Understand?"

Sh-She's such a heroine... Even like this, she would give herself for me... Imagine it, her standing in front of me, barely holding it together, telling the evildoers "You will not have this girl so long as I stand!" Aaaah, it's too cool for words! Utena squealed internally.

A purple energy enveloped her trans item again, cutting off her fantasies once more. Stop it!! Stop almost transforming!

Azure didn't seem to have figured out what was going on, but she was aware something was happening. She was sweating feverishly, eyes scanning the room. Even now, she tried to keep up her cool demeanor, muttering under her breath. "Nngh... Don't mess with me. If you push me when I'm like this, after your friend took Magenta and Sulfur... I will show you no mercy."

... Friend? Took Magenta and Sulfur? As the current leader of Enormita, it was Utena's responsibility to know all the doings of the organization. And she was aware of no Enormita friend who had taken the two magical girls. Indeed, anyone who did - anyone who left Azure like this, took Magenta and Sulfur away - would be no friend of hers.

"I follow everything to do with the Tres Magia, so I know a lot, but I don't know anything about that," Utena said, trying to let herself fangirl as if she weren't in the know. "There's a new member of Enormita?"

Azure shook her head, giving a weak smile. "Ah, it's- it's nothing. I was only talking to myself."

Utena pretended not to be disappointed by this answer, but internally her mind was racing. "Oh, that's okay! I'll go get you something to eat and drink. Wait here, okay? Don't move!"

As she hurried to the kitchen, she pulled out her phone and opened the Enormita group chat on LIME.

Utena pocketed her phone, grabbing a bento and scooping in some of the leftover rice from the rice cooker. Then she rummaged through the fridge, looking around for --

"Is that a midnight snack?" Utena's mother asked, surprised. "You sure have been eating a lot more than usual lately. They must be keeping you busy at school."

"Um, yeah, l-lots of exercise," Utena mumbled, popping some karaage into the toaster oven. "And health class always says that we should eat enough for our growing bodies..."

Utena's mother seemed to accept this explanation - at the very least, she backed off, heading back toward the laundry room. "Hm. Well, you shouldn't eat so close to bedtime, it's not good for your stomach."

This is a matter of life or death, mother! Utena growled internally as she dug through the crisper drawer. Magia Azure's future hangs in the balance!

She raced back to her bedroom with the bento, some chopsticks, and a glass of water, finding Azure... lying on her side, looking through Utena's homemade array of discs with her face on them. Her lewdest faces. Her own face was quite red as she looked them over. She stopped when her hostess closed the door, hastily setting them back down.

"Ah- M-My apologies. I was only curious. It seems you do... very much keep up with our adventures, don't you?" Azure said, looking away. "It, uh, it's good to have a hobby."

Why is she so cute? Utena asked the heavens. You throw her in my lap and she makes faces like that... how can I not want to tease her more?! Even when she's like this... Even when I'm not Magia Baiser... I still want to...

The heavens had no reply. At least there was no glow on her nightstand this time.

"Um- I see you have some food there. Is that for me?" Azure asked timidly.

Utena shook off her admiration, kneeling down next to Azure. "Here. It's not what a magical girl like you deserves, but... eat up. I know it's important for recovering your strength."

"Thank you for the food," Azure said, clapping her hands together before gratefully and ravenously digging in, barely lifting herself off the ground.

Such a small thing. Watching her heroine eat. Of course the Tres Magia had to eat, just like anyone else. More than anyone else, even, since they needed the energy to fuel their muscles as they fought and the protein to rebuild after they were injured. At least, if it worked like Enormita's transformations did.

But the intimacy of simply sitting there in her own bedroom, seeing the way Azure ate, watching her skill with the chopsticks and noticing which parts of the bento she ate first, hearing the little sounds she made as she ate, sounds of contentment and relief and delight... it was incomparable. After all, the magical girls never ate in public. They got in fights and then disappeared. This was a moment few others, if any, had ever seen.

And here it was, on display for her and her alone. Who could blame her for staring?

Azure cleared her throat. "Something wrong, Utena?"

"Oh, nothing... I just wish I could watch you eat forever," Utena mumbled, hands covering her cheeks and a silly grin stretching between them.

"M-Mm..." Azure gave her an awkward smile. She looked down at her meal, self-consciously finishing the last few bites with a bright blush on her cheeks. "Ahaha... thanks... th-thanks for the meal..."

There was an uncomfortable silence between the two for a little while, with Utena staring and Azure awkwardly looking anywhere in the room but at Utena.

"A-Actually. There is an important question I have to- to ask you," Azure asked, forcing her composure back together. "Is there any chance that you might have seen the battles we fought today?"

Utena tilted her head, swallowing down the excitement that my fangirling is going to save the Tres Magia! "I normally go through social media and all the news channels whenever there's a battle. I haven't really looked for any of the stuff from today..."

"... I hate to ask you to do this after everything you've done so far," Azure said. She bowed her head deeply. "But... I can't fight like this. And I don't want to be idle when... well, could you look now, and show me what you learn about today's battles? There's something I want to confirm."

Sooooo coooool!!! If it weren't for Magenta and Sulfur being missing, this would be the greatest moment of my life! Azure, wanting me to help her investigate Magenta and Sulfur's disappearances... We're going to bring this monster who kidnapped magical girls down! Utena brought her tablet down onto the floor beside Azure. "Please... if there's anything I can do..."

"Let's start with the fight this morning, in the park..."

The two girls bent over the tablet, scrolling through the #tresmagia tag for hours. It didn't seem like any of the others had noticed the disappearances, at least; there were no posts on Snitter worrying about Magenta or Sulfur. None worrying about Azure, either.

"Show me... no, that's not from a good angle," Azure said. She was starting to have trouble lifting her head again. "Nn... I want to keep going."

"You have to rest," Utena urged. "You're Magenta and Sulfur's best hope. Right?"

Azure flinched away. "... I- You heard that, then."

"I could have guessed when you came to me instead of them," Utena said lightly, placing a hand on Utena's arm. "... It must... be a lot of pressure. Right?"

As was to be expected from Azure, she steeled her voice, forcing herself to sit up next to Utena. "I can handle it. I will handle it. For their sakes, and everyone else's. That is what it means to be Magia Azure."

Wow... She really is unbreakable... Utena cooed internally, admiring that steeled visage. "All right. Then we'll continue."

... But, for all that it meant to be Magia Azure, it was less than an hour later that the exhausted magical girl slowly drooped against Utena's shoulder.

"Azure..." Utena murmured, continuing to scroll through the feed. "... Am I too harsh on you...? I want you to keep fighting, but... for you to insist on fighting until you can't stay awake anymore..."

Azure didn't answer, slowly sinking lower against Utena and breathing steadily.

Having Azure sleeping against her shoulder was sweet, but Utena kept her eyes fixed forward... even if she did sneak one selfie.

I have to be really careful. If she loses her transformation while she's asleep... I don't want to know her secret. I just want her to be Magia Azure to me...

While she mulled over this, a post scrolled into view on the Snitter feed. "Does anyone know who this is? New #enormita member? I can't keep up with all these villains anymore... #tresmagia"

Utena brought the tablet in closer. Yes - though the photo had clearly been zoomed in way past the camera's limit of detail - there, next to the building where Magia Magenta had disappeared, was a blurry shape with what looked like a knee-length dress and a forked staff. This must have been the villain who snagged Magenta!

This is promising! Utena thought excitedly, saving the post to her collection. Azure will be happy to see this in the morning.

As she tucked the tablet away and prepared to commit this moment to memory with every fiber of her being, she noticed a LIME notification. Six of them, in fact. Ah... how long has that been there?

One was from Kiwi, wishing her a good night (and with a lovely lingerie picture attached, too). The other five were all in the Enormita group chat. She popped it open again, curious.

Utena's heart pounded in her chest, and her mouth went dry. She switched back to the blurry photo.

Who are you? And what do you want with my magical girls?
